STATEMENT
At the center of my artistic practice is an exploration of the concepts of fate, predestination, and the role of the individual within the framework of grand historical processes.
In my search, I turn to religion, science, literature, and sometimes chance stories, as if to a system of clues. Like Borges's hero peering into the spots on a jaguar's skin in search of truth, I search for these "keys" wherever I can reach, trying to piece them together into a coherent, system-like picture of the world.
Material serves me as both a conduit and a tool of encoding—be it color, metal, stone, a found object, or a mechanism. They are my co-authors, bringing with them a narrative, a lived life, their own history; they are keepers of clues.
This search inevitably leads me to the question of the human being itself, of our duty in the face of history and the universe: to what extent are we free to dispose of our own lives, and to what extent are we part of a design that does not depend on us? Or perhaps it does. And is there even such a design, and the keys to it?
And is it necessary to search at all—or is it a great sin, or maybe you'll just get away with it anyway,
like fortune-telling during Christmastide.
